unsuspected, barren, and remote places. Are you just a military memobilia

Gama Goats are not known for stealth (sneaking in or out - diesel engine noise, you know), but are known for power and performance - they go about anywhere and Get The Job Done and protect on the way!
Let's face it, although amphibious, they are not really designed for long distance swimming or boating, but will cross calm waters (ponds and small lakes) successfully (never stop them in a water crossing for your pleasure, fishing, etc.). Goats are movers, not boats, or rafts. They cross shallow streams and rivers, and work excellent in flooding areas after a super rain storm!
Actually, these vehicles are, considered by many, better climbers (land rovers) than swimmers, because of the 6-wheel drive capability, tandem (opposite) front-to-rear steering, and articulated tractor/carrier system. With tire chains and Arctic makeup goats make cold, snowy, areas appear as little bumps in the road (just a little tough to start in cold climates because of the diesel engine)!
There have been websites and heard comments that these vehicles are "maintenance intensive"; that is questioned. It just gets down to what you want and willingness to perform maintenance. Most of the complaints are mechanic due to hard to reach or access points for maintenance personnel. On the other hand, it is also noted that lots of positive performance information - the pay-off!
What is the truth? It is believed these vehicles never really had a "true" supported beginning: true, they are more complex than the average vehicle, and hard to work on, and so very unique in design (mechanical and looks). For this reason many military mechanics were daunted (even by appearance) to work on them: they were afraid they would screw something up! The truth is, not much military maintenance training was spent on making this vehicle easily operable.
This is an overlooked sleeping giant or the ugly duckling that becomes the beautiful swan, and has powerful potentials in caring hands.
The more you learn about these military orphans the more you love them!!!
